Alibi is an idea I have for tracking privacy violations. To make companies pay for selling out your personal info to (other) marketing companies and/or spammers.
It is an easy system to use for tracking who sold you out, so you'll know never to do business with them again - and hopefully share (blog?) about it too so others benefit.
Here is the process flow.
- Whenever you sign up (online) for or purchase goods/services from a vendor, give them a code. I use an incrementing # like 101, 102, ...
- Put the code # in the Apt# field of the address form. Alternatively, you can add it to the -4 part of the zip code
- Add the company information (Name, website, date, code#) to your Alibi page
- Wait and see what happens - sooner or later that code will come back to you in spam or junk mail and you'll know who the culprit was!
